Kõrvemaa is a pristine nature region in northern Estonia, covering some 3 132 km². Stretching roughly 110 km east–west and 40 km north–south, about 37.7 % of its area is bog and mire, with the remainder dominated by forests. The population here is sparse, and much of the land is protected: the 130.9 km² Põhja-Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve and the Kõrvemaa Landscape Protection Area safeguard its prime habitats, and in the north it adjoins Lahemaa National Park.

Near the backpack hiking trails you’ll find well-equipped campsites and campfire sites welcome everyone to rest and have a picnic.
You can experience one day of hiking with snowshoes/bog shoes off the wooden track, swimming in bog lakes, cooking on a fire in the middle of nowhere, staying overnight and sleeping in hammocks in bogs, or even two-day canoe and bike trip together with traditional sauna, challenging yourself with an overnight trip in the winter and hiking over the frozen bog or going on a landscape photography tour. Or skating on the frozen lakes… And that’s not all.
Since 2012, community tourism has been coordinated on a volunteer basis by Marilin Pehka. Under her leadership, VisitKorvemaa has achieved:
2012–2013: Tourism training for local businesses and stakeholders (in partnership with BDA Consulting and Ülle Puustusmaa)
2013: Launch of the “Kõrvemaa Tourism” social-media channels (rebranded as VisitKorvemaa in 2020)
2014: Publication of the first regional brochure and drafting of the Anija Parish Tourism Strategy to define and promote the Kõrvemaa brand
2015: Adoption of the “Anija Eit” logo (designed by Ave Nahkur) and creation of local souvenirs; naming of Aegviidu as Estonia’s Hiking Capital by the Ramblers’ Association
2016: Highlighting Kõrvemaa on PuhkaEestis.ee as a premier active-nature destination
2020: Launch of the new website visitkorvemaa.ee, developed through an Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund training
2021–2022: Joint social-media campaigns and professional photo/video productions with the Estonian Tourist Board
Since 2022: Deepened partnership with the Estonian Tourist Board to position VisitKorvemaa as a top day-trip destination from Tallinn
